TF2 Roleplaying Secrets
On Self-inserts
I loathe self inserts. I can get having the same birthday. Even some of the same hobbies or skills, since it’s easier to write about what you know. But- it is completely unacceptable to take yourself, every little detail about your own being, and slap a class on it and call it an OC. It’s not an original anything. It’s yourself 2.0 with pumped up skills or such to fit in the class. Use your imagination! It really rubs me wrong when self insert Mary Sues get attention and real OCs don’t.

Mod X: Unfortunately these things happens and we can’t really do anything to stop that from happening. I say if it really just bothers you, don’t follow those kinds of people.

I hate when I really like an OC and someone’s IC posts. But then I talk to them OOC or see their OOC posts and really can’t stand them as a RL person. It makes me not want to RP with their OC, even though I know it’d be good for both OCs involved. Or when I find out someone mods an OC I like, but I dislike the person, I instantly hate that OC. I know it’s not fair but I can’t help it. It goes reversed too. Some people are the best OOC people ever, but their OC makes me hate them so much. Why!??!

Mod X: It is just a mindset we have as human beings. Sometimes we think that since a character or a person is a certain way then that person or character is also the same. It is something that people have to work with, to sorta…detach themselves if that would be the right wording of that action.

Mod X: So sorry about the lack of posts. Been really busy over the past week or so, but I will go ahead and start putting stuff up in queue again!

I can’t STAND child mercs. Mercs having children is more understandable, but no one under the age of 18 should even be in this war, and even then, only Scouts should be that young. I get that it’s your OC, and you’re free to do what you want with them, but it just makes no sense for anyone under 18 being in the war! Even in the time period, they wouldn’t hire anyone under 18 to fight! it REALLY makes me not want to RP with someone, when their merc is just a child

———-

Mod Y: I have to agree with this. Children are not meant to be on the battlefield, no matter how talented they might be. Let’s be honest here, TF2 is a WAR setting it is no place for children. They should not be in the bases even. If they were in the town setting, then that’s fine, it’s far away from the bases themselves. But since we’ve seen a few popping on the field, it’s a nice remind that children do not belong on the war field.

It’s really discouraging to have people drop out of threats constantly. I play several different OCs on Tumblr, most of which people don’t know I mod. And I end up losing threads anyways. I know it’s not the OC since it happens to them all, it makes me feel like such a boring, unwanted RPer! It kills me to know without a doubt that I can’t compete with anyone else here. I watch as the same people who drop my threads continue other ones with better players. It’s discouraging and really upsetting.

————

Mod Y: There isn’t much that can be done if people drop out of threads. Perhaps it is missing a fun factor that they are seeking? We really can’t know, unless you talk to them and ask them if they are looking for something in particular, or losing interest?

I say keep working on it. Don’t be afraid to ask. Things will get better for you.

I hate hybrids. They have no place in the RP at all. Get the fuck out all of you.

Mod X: Well then that is your opinion. But people do what they want in regards to roleplay. If it bothers you that much, then you don’t need to pay attention to them.

That is all. Thank you.

Mod Y: Again, like Mod X said, no one is forcing you to follow them or roleplay with them if hybrids bother you. People are free to do what they want in any universe they wish to roleplay in, I believe, so long as it keeps making sense as to why x or y hybrid exists.

On shipping

People seem to do nothing but mildly complain about ships oocly from what I’ve been told. Sometimes about not being able to hook up certain ocs together, and sometimes about people apparently “whining” about not being with the oc of their choice. Slowly regretting shipping sometimes because of this

——

Mod X: People have to realize, sometimes a ‘ship’ or ‘OTP’ is just not going to end up happening whether they like it or not. I guess this is where I would say that they need to ‘get over it’.

Just because a certain ship doesn’t work out does not mean the end of the world. Just have to deal with the interactions that do occur and if it bothers that much then they really need to stop spending so much time fretting over it.

Mod Y: Mod X pretty much nailed it. Things won’t always work out the way you like. The best thing to do is for your character to move on and to grow from the experience.

Subject of hybrids

I hate it when people see a hybrid OC and automatically assume they’re a shitty Mary-Sue. There’s bad REGULAR characters as well. Please give hybrids a chance before judging us?
——

Mod X: I agree with this entirely. Please, everyone, do not judge a person just because they are playing a hybrid. Yes there may be some bad ones, but I have seen some excellently done ones as well. You just have to wait and see and really not judge a book by it’s cover so to speak.

Mod Y: I agree with mod X. Just because a character is an hybrid, it does not make it  automatically bad. Get to know them before deciding if you want to roleplay with them or not.

Sorry about the lack of activity guys! Things got really busy on my end, will start queue-ing the submissions that we have so far.

Thanks for bearing with me
